Short Description
Penny Vavoulidou is a Licensed Psychologist in Greece. She studied Psychology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Piano Diploma from the State
Conservatory of Thessaloniki. At the beginning of her career, she trained and worked as a Music Therapist in London, at the UK’s largest music therapy charity, Nordoff and
Robbins, where she utilised her knowledge and skills in psychology and music.
Later she was accepted to study and work at the fully funded intensive Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training in Talking Therapies (NHS Primary Care). There she supported individuals with depression and anxiety difficulties. She specialises in the provision of short-term therapeutic interventions to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an evidence-based approach and has been found to be effective in treating depression and anxiety difficulties. It aims to help the person to understand themselves better through the observation of their thoughts, behaviours and feelings. In this way through therapy people can develop their self-awareness in relation to existing unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that play a role in the maintenance of high distress in the form of a vicious cycle. In therapy people can explore new ways of dealing with intense feelings, like anxiety, and enhance their existing strengths and helpful coping strategies. Penny offers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy sessions online to adults who present with difficulties such as generalised anxiety disorder, panic attacks, social anxiety, illness anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), phobias, depression, perfectionism and low self-esteem.
